KeyboardBe a Subject Matter Expert (SME)...

Each month thousands of people visit KeystoneISS.com (KISS) and its subsidiary sites. We offer a variety of information resources and we are constantly expanding our current areas of knowledge as well as looking for other subjects which we can provide reliable information for. Our Subject Matter Experts offer practical advice and solutions from personal experience and expertise.

Do you have something to share? Would you like to see your material web-published? Do you see any area or subject that we don't cover but you'd like to suggest?

If you don't want to be a SME but still have information that I would like to submit, you may do so. We will accept submissions without a formal agreement. The terms and policies contained on this page will still apply to any submission. You don't have to become a SME to contribute to the community. Its strictly up to you. We encourage you to explore this page and contact us with any questions you may have.

Are you ready to become an online leader or do you have something to contribute to a community of people who share your interests? Apply to become a Keystone ISS Subject Matter Expert!

Keystone ISS SME's are fully empowered to do all of these things. Each Expert's mission is to create an easy, intuitive and gratifying experience for people interested in their topic. Each Expert is screened by Keystone ISS. All Experts must maintain our high standards in user services and community leadership. Our experts write original informative articles, provide the Web's best links for their topics, and give their readers what they need to know. This relationship between Subject Matter Experts and users makes Keystone ISS a dynamic service that truly responds to the needs of anyone who visits.

We ask our Experts to be opinion leaders, sharing your perspective and insight into the topic. What do our users need to know? How can you help them avoid the pitfalls of researching information and products online?

Our Experts are real people - just like you. They include professionals, educators, students and stay-at-home moms. Our Experts are as diverse as the sites we offer. We believe that one of the key components of our success is the fact that each Expert is a person, as well as an online expert.

What we do:

Even if you don’t see yourself as a SME but have something to contribute, perhaps just one piece of information or one article on a subject that may be of help to others, we encourage you to contact us and submit an article. You don’t have to be a prize-winning author to submit an article. We will edit and format the article to suit. As diverse as they are, Subject Matter Experts do share a few characteristics:

  • A true knowledge of and a passion for their topic
  • Commitment to creating informative, "what you need to know" features
  • A dedication to building and updating a comprehensive links directory
  • Strong writing and editing skills (even if only moderate, we can work with you)
  • Basic html skills (not required but could be helpful)

What we don't do:

Unlike other sites:
We do not REQUIRE our experts to submit their photo. We don’t care what our experts look like we just care about the quality of the information or insight that they can provide to the public.  Of course if they want a photo to appear on the site and or next to their article we are always happy to post a photo of their choosing.
We do not REQUIRE our experts to publish their personal contact information.  We will act as a buffer to handle all the communications but our Experts always have the option of personal contact with the users.
We do not REQUIRE our experts to have a long list of academic credits and high profile resumes. Although some do and that is excellent but what we do require is Subject knowledge and the ability to communicate clearly.  In some cases all this requires is plain old common sense and know-how from personal experience.  If you have a long list of academic credits you are proud of and wish displayed, you’ve earned the right to and we’ll gladly help you.
We do not REQUIRE you to write exclusively for Keystone ISS.  As a matter of fact we encourage our Experts to explore all publishing avenues and to become as involved as they wish with the community in a variety of methods and forums.  Here at Keystone ISS, we’re all about individuals who desire personal improvement and growth.  By enabling and encouraging our Experts to spread their wings it will ultimately make them even more valuable resources for the readers to access.  Our goal is to see as many people succeed in improving their life and realizing their dreams as possible.

Do you have what it takes to be a Subject Matter Expert?

Don't wait! Apply now!.

We provide very basic and simple guidelines to help our SME's create informative and attractive content. While we encourage our SME's to keep their articles lively and attractive we understand that some topics are just too difficult to create flashy content for. After all it's the information being passed on that is important and we expect our SME's to provide the best information or advise possible, keeping with the intent of the articles subject.

We also have guidelines to assist SME's with selecting graphics and digital photography for illustrations.

A knowledge of basic html is helpfully but is not required. If you prefer to work in html we will supply you with all you need to know including a template.

We're not in the business of crating catchy content to attract and redirect web traffic to products or advertisements. Although we do place ads on our sites, they are there are references or resources for the users, not to drive revenue.

The CEO of our company has written for and/or entertained writing for other web sites He quickly discovered that those sites were not interested in giving the users useable information and resources, they were only interested in driving traffic to their ads. Although we do offer a variety of products through various outlets; first and foremost, Keystone ISS Inc. is an information resource not a marketing ploy.

A Word.Doc containing a short web authoring tutorial will be provided to our SME's This tutorial offers some good advice and the rational behind them.

As our SME's progress and consider publishing, or perhaps have published through a traditional publisher and were not satisfied with the results we can offer you some advice and resources to consider self publishing.

Our Terms and Policies for SME's:

We value our relationship with our Subject Matter Experts. However we do have some terms and policies that should be discussed. In addition to our general Terms and Policies:

While we do not force a deadline we do ask that if you tell us you'll be submitting something by a particular date, that you stay true to your word and submit no later. We do understand that things happen and life can "get in the way" at times. If you've set a date for a submission and find that you cannot keep that commitment, all we ask is that you notify us as soon as possible.

If we add a BLOG capability for you we ask that you make an entry at minimum three times a week. If you are not able to for a period of time you may do one of two things send us the updates you would have made ahead of time and we'll add them for you in your absence or you can have someone else make the submissions for you.

Ethics. We do demand ethical behavior of all our SME's We ask that you keep the language free of profanity and socially acceptable. We do maintain editorial control and will not post a submission that does not meet our standards. Ethics does not necessarily end with your submissions. If you prove to me unethical in business, person or the community we may take action including but not limited to removing your submissions and severing all contact. However, everyone has a right to be heard and we'll weigh each case on it's own merits. It would have to be pretty extreme to cause us to take such an extreme action as severing all contact and removing all of your work.

Plagiarism: We cannot tolerate plagiarism of copyrighted material. If the material is yours and you are the copyright holder, than you may of course submit anything under your control. You understand that by submitting any material it does give us the right to use the material in perpetuity. This does not diminish your ownership or rights to your work but it does mean that we can use your work or any part of it without further permission. You may reference copyrighted work or even quote or use it if you have the owners permission. Guidelines including how to get permission to use copyrighted material will be furnished to you. Some of this information is also available via links on the submission web page.

You may write for Keystone at the same time that you write for other web sites and publications. We have no restrictions other than what is listed under 'Ethics'.

Use: By submitting material to us you are granting us the right to use your material in part or whole in perpetuity. That means for as long as we choose to. We do have editorial rights and may refuse a given submission. If we do , in most cases a reason will be given.

If you chose to stop writing for Keystone you may do so at any time. You are under no contractual obligation to Keystone. Under normal circumstances, Keystone will retain the right to continue use of any material which has been submitted by you. You may request removal and release of that right. In most cases, Keystone may consider such requests on a case by case basis.

Privacy: Keystone will only disclose what information you approve and in a mutually agreed manor. If you prefer anonymity we will respect that wish. Although we encourage our SME's to engage with the public; if you prefer Keystone will can also act as a filter for all communications to and from the public.

Publicity and credits: Although technically we reserve editorial rights, Keystone is more than happy to give you the proper credit for your work. If you wish a byline with your name and optionally a "tasteful" photo to appear by your work we will gladly oblige. AS this site grows we may add a Staff / SME page and will entertain the possibility of publishing our SME's portfolio/resume on request/submission.

eMail: SME's will be issued an email address for Keystone ISS Inc. related correspondence only.

Further clarifications of these terms and policies can be reviewed in the "Be a SME and "SME FAQ's".

Q: Do I get paid for my article submissions?
A: At this time Keystone ISS Inc. does not pay its SME's for articles or other input. We will not rule it out as a future benefit but currently have no plans in that area.

Q: Will I get full credit for my article?
A: Yes! We have no desire to take credit for anyone else's work. Keystone ISS Inc. is more than happy to see its SME's establish themselves as an authoritative source or continue to develop a portfolio if you've already published.

Q: Can I use Keystone ISS Inc. as a reference or reference the company and my work in a portfolio/resume?
A: Yes. If contacted we will confirm that you have written for us, the dates to and from and the type of work you did, but we will not offer an evaluation of you or your work unless we've discussed it with you and you've provided us with approval to say more. Of course that approval, under most circumstances will be considered a one time, one event approval and it can be revoked by you at any time.

Q: Do I maintain all rights and ownership of my articles?
A: Yes! We do not take ownership of your work. If you wish you could post the same article on any other web site, publication or even use it in a book. The work is yours. We do however require that you give us unlimited permissions, in perpetuity to use your work but that in no way curtails your use.

Q: If I stop being a SME or contributing to Keystone's sites can I take my work with me?
A: Yes! We do not take ownership of your work. If you wish you could post the same article on any other web site, publication or even use it in a book. The work is yours. We do however require that you give us unlimited permissions to use your work in perpetuity but that in no way curtails your use.

Q: Can I write for other sites and publications while writing for Keystone?
A: Yes! The work is yours. We only require that you give us unlimited permissions to use your work in perpetuity but that in no way curtails your use.

Q: Can I request that my identity be kept in confidence?
A: Yes! We will not list your name or anything about you that you do not approve. We've come to realize that some do not want notoriety of any type and generally avoid it. An example of an explanation once given by a serious stamp collector... "I live in a real bad neighborhood and don't want anyone to know that I have an extensive collection but have a lot of good information to share". Sound reasoning!

Q: Can I request that all of my material and contributions be removed from Keystone's sites/use?
A: We do however require that you give us unlimited permissions to use your work in perpetuity. However, we recognize that the work is yours and we will consider the request on a case by case basis.
